PrickAbout us

Salsa

The music is filled with rhythms, improvisation and energy. It is also a great source of freeing your mind and having fun. The word 'salsa' means sauce and the music and the dance is called so because of the spicy and tasty mixture of influences from many different rhythms and dances. Read more about the history of salsa - click here
You can both dance in couples and single. You dance in single with connection to how you dance in couples sometimes and also when you dance as a group together
You will also try other dances such as cha-cha-cha, Afro-Cuban dances, meringue and rumba

There are Beginners course and Advanced 1 - Advanced 6 and a show group. We dance both in couples and single. In the Beginners course the steps are carefully explained how to take them to the music. We then learn how to move the entire body while we dance and then how to lead and follow your partner in the dance. You will also learn about the feeling of the music and how to improvise with the things you have learned
On the advanced courses you will learn more about how to use advanced things like dips&tricks, styling, poses, interpretation of music, timing, expression and charisma. There are a lot to learn which we beleive to be inspiring. Just as inspiring when you have already gotten a head a bit in the beginners class and are capable to go out on salsa clubs and have fun and on other events. A tip is to enjoy the level you are in and to have fun with what one has learned. When one has finsihed our beginners class one has enough knowledge to have as much fun as one wants to have and even if you choose not to continue on an advanced class you can still go out dancing and have fun

On all levels we teach steps, patterns of turns and technique that are retrieved from the different salsa styles that exist. For example maybe at one occasion you will be taugt a pattern of turns from one style and the next time you will learn another pattern from another style. You wont learn a mixed style instead you will learn several other styles. In this way you will get a broad repertoire that will work just as well in Sweden as in lets say Latin-America or New York, or where ever you would want to dance :-)
A rough division into styles would be: crossbody = styles danced on a line with your partner on one or the other side of you and cuban/circle/latinamerican = styles where you dance around each other
The different styles have a clear and common base. The more you dance the more you get to learn about what it is that characterizes the different styles. You will also learn how to mix between the diverse styles
If you want to read more deeply about the different levels go into Course material and Instruction videos in the left hand menu

Oriental dance - Bellylatina

Belly dancing with flavor of Latin America. We dance like Shakira and Beyonce and mix the mystical orient movements with the hot latin rhythms

Reggaeton (gasolina)

Reggaeton is a type of music (maybe you´ve heard the song Gasolina by Daddy Yankee) that has developed a free dance style with many cool moves. You move the whole body with the rhythm. You dance in single Everybody can dance, we take it from basic. You will learn how to move all parts of your body and then how to shake and find the groove to the music with the entire body :-)

African Dance

There are 3 categories of traditional african dances
The first category reflects on the day to day experiences and historical events that the African people have experienced throughout the centuries. The day to day experiences are marked by those animals who are a part of their world, the different elements (wind, fire, water and earth) and the daily activities like picking berries and grinding flour. Historical events could be migration or the search for cultivable land
The second category is worshiping, that is to say the dances that have evolved to show reverence to the many different gods och to show gratitude towards life
The third category is the war dances of which purpose is to mark territory, show strength and pride and to be intimidating

On the course you learn different steps and movements within the categories mentioned above. You dance solo. You move a lot and work on jumps and movements with hips, chest and shoulders. The music is from CDs and we use everything from live recordings of drums to more popular african music. The music and movements are really compelling and they will give you a boost of energy :-)

Samba

Samba comes from Brazil and dances to captivating and groovy music! We dance a mix of Riosamba and Sambareggae. You dance in single and will learn different basic steps and how you will increase the speed of your feet. We shake the hips and learn how to move different parts of the body. You will also learn about the music and how to improvise

Latin Street Dance

You will learn a choreography, a mix of jazzdance, streetdance, salsa, mambo, merengue, chachacha and samba. You will dance in single and learn different steps and moves which we combine into a choreography

We perform for instance at Malmöfestivalen in August, Kulturnatten in Lund in September and at our own dance evenings. See pictures from our performances. We have extra practices before performances

PrickIn our Shop in the menu to the left we can offer you instructional videos, course CD, music records, timing CD, dance shoes and Sabrosa t-shirts
PrickYou must master one level to be able to attend a higher and more advanced level. We have plenty of dancing to music so it will never get boring if you decide to attend the same level once again
PrickWe are grateful if the shoes that you will be dancing in are clean indoor shoes and that they won't leave any marks on the floor
PrickSome things to think about to show consideration to the one you dance with:
* Clothes - if possible use newly washed clothes
* Chewing gum- gives a better sence of breath. Mouth spray or similar gives the same result
* Nails - nails that are trimmed and short produce a lesser chance to scrath the one you dance with. Given that it is the man who leads, there is a greater risk that it is the man who scratches the woman than vice versa
PrickThe volume of the music on the courses is relatively low. The instructors have to be able to make themlves heard without raising their voice and shout to much. If you feel that the volume is to loud please let us know. Even if the volume at salsa clubs is relativetly low compared to regulare clubs we recommend that you use earplogs when you go out dancing. We who work with dance can not risk our hearing and you will get use to earplugs
PrickWe are connected to Kamratkortet
