Jesse Shuja
Jesse
has been dancing salsa for over 7 years in many of Malmo’s
salsa places. The first 6 years he learned by observing his latin
friends and then practicing in front of the mirror at home and
at the same time listening to wonderful salsa music.
With
time Jesse felt that it was time to evolve, he had the rhythm
but he needed structure. On the fall of 2004 Jesse started to
dance for Robin, Johan and Alexandra, and soon also for Lisa.
Jesse evolved the way he wanted to thanks to the pedagogic skills
of Sabrosa. Now he just wants to evolve further.
Jesse
is also involved in the colombian folkdance group Candela Viva.
Here he has been part of several exhibitions and a carnival. For
as long as he can remember Jesse has lived with the latin american
music. He believes it’s important to learn from other latin
american dances, so that one can comprehend the classical latin
feeling.
At
the moment Jesse is studying to become a teacher. With that in
mind Jesse feels that he is more than capable to teach his great
passion to whom ever might be interested. He has also been an
assisting trainer for kids within karate (shotokan). In his opinion
one can teach salsa to everyone, as long as one looks for every
individuals needs.
Salsa
is more health related than the normal belief. Jesse has had problems
with stress and muscle tension over the last years, but dancing
salsa has helped him more than he would ever have believed. This
could be related to the straight posture while dancing salsa and
also the blood circulation that really gets going when one dances.
You have a lot of movement in the upper part of the body which
helps with tensions in the neck and shoulders. It’s always
good and stimulating for the mind when one uses both the left
and right side of the body equally as much.
In
Jesse’s opinion salsa is something that brings harmony.
It’s a time when body and spirit are combined, which in
turn leads to a greater feeling of life.
