 For
as long as I can remember I have always been interested in dancing
and music. As soon as I was able to walk I started to dance and
the first specific dance was the Greek kind at parties that were
held in Boras, the city were I grew up.
A
couple of years later I danced ballet and jazz, but later on I
started to practise competitive gymnastics instead. In my later
teens I started to compete in Sports aerobics and for a short
period of time I also danced Hip Hop.
It
wasn’t until I first moved down to Malmo I got in contact
with salsa through my friend Diana, who originally comes from
Colombia. She taught me the basic steps, which I worked on at
different Salsa places in Malmo. During this period I have also
danced Colombian folk-dance with a group called Candela Viva since
fall –04. A little different compared to Salsa, but it has
meant a lot for my progress as a dancer.
But
it wasn’t until I started to dance with Jesse Shuja, who
also dances with Candela Viva that my Salsa skills started to
develop. He taught me Cuban Salsa and the history behind it. I
have now danced Salsa for about two years and I am totally hooked
on both the music and the dance itself, including the joy it brings.
